After suffering a knee injury in the Champions League tie against Roma, Liverpool has announced that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s 2017/18 season and World Cup dream are now over.

According to the club, the result of the assessment and scan revealed that the 24-year-old midfielder sustained serious ligament damage in his right knee and the timetable of his recovery cannot be determined yet.

Going back, Oxlade-Chamberlain got the injury after challenging Aleksandar Kolarov in the first half of the Red’s 5-2 win against Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal at Anfield. (Don’t forget to check 12BET for more Soccer Betting Tips)

“Liverpool FC can confirm Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s 2017-18 season is over for both club and country due to a knee ligament injury sustained against AS Roma. The midfielder was forced from the field after 18 minutes of the Reds’ 5-2 victory in the Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield after picking up the issue during an attempted challenge.

The extent of the injury means Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to miss the remainder of the campaign for Liverpool, as well as the World Cup finals in Russia with England. The 24-year-old was assessed by the club’s medical team at Melwood on Wednesday morning and no specific timescale is being placed upon his return to action at this stage.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain will now begin a rehabilitation programme to enable him to reach full fitness again as soon as possible, returning to action next season.” A statement read in Liverpool’s official website. (Sign Up now for more updated sports news and events in 12BET Sportsbook)

Meanwhile, the striker put his disappointment on his Twitter account, saying that he was absolutely devastated with what happened in which he can no longer play any further for Liverpool, including World Cup in Russia with England.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who scored five goals in 41 appearances for the Reds this season following his £35 million move from Arsenal, will miss a third successive tournament with his national team.
