Participating for the first time in the World Cup will be tough for both the Iceland Squad and for the other teams. Thus it will be quite interesting to witness them playing to battle for the top nation consisting of different teams with world-class players. The team have be grouped with Argentina, Croatio and Nigeria, and their main squad was announced on the 11th of May 2018.
Birkir Bjarnason
Birkir is currently at the position as a midfielder for Aston Villa in the English Championship, he had a total of 65 matches for the team and garnered a goal points of 9. He used to play for Pescara during the Seria A in 2014/15. Then he was signed by FC Basel. During the contract in played 42 matches in the Swiss Super League and had a score of 14 goals in total. In the current season, he had 4 goals appearing in 33 matches for Aston Villa.

Aron Gunnarsson
Gunnarsson will be the one leading the team in their first-ever exposure in the World Cup. In the current his position is a midfielder for Cardiff City FC who joins and battles in English Premier League. 77 matches in total are the games he played for Iceland national team.
He also played for Coventry City in and English Championship, he scored a total of 6 goals and played 123 games for them. Gunnarsson joined Cardiff City in 2011 and playing along with them since then. Appearing in 243 of games for Cardiff City, he has scored 24 goals. Although he hasn’t have the mark he wanted on the current season, his experience as a player makes him a reliable player for the team. During the 2017/18 season he appeared in 20 games and able to score one goal.
Gunnarson would be on a lot of pressure being the captain of the team. He will be leading his team to the knockout stage hoping to land on a fair position with their 1st appearance.
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Sigurdsson being the most experienced midfielder in the entire squad. 5 years back then when he started playing Premier league for Everton and able to score 18 goals in only 55 appearance for the Iceland national team.
He also played for reading in the English Champion ship and again scored 18 goals with a lesser of 42 appearance for them. In 2012, Gylfi was signed by Tottenham Hotspur at a fee of $8.8 million. He made 58 appearance for and 8 goals, while for Swansea City in 2014 he scored 27 goals in 106 appearance and on currently for Everton with 33 matches had managed to have 6 goals.
Iceland would relying on Gylfi’ experience in the past tournaments, he would be up to showcase his talent for debut in hthe world’s biggest soccer league.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson
Johann, currently playing as a winger for Burnley played 65 matches for the Iceland national and scored 7 goals. Also a player for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Championship during 2009/14 where scored 9 goals in 119 appearances. Player for a two-year contract for Charlton Atheletic played for 81 matches and had 16 goals. Then signed him for Burnley for a three-year deal and made 54 appearance them till now. He was able to score 3 goals in playing English Premier League this season for playing in 38 matches.
Johann’s experiences would pretty much add up to the fire power of the Iceland during their debut in the World Cup and might able to guide his team mates towards victory. Everyone is waiting for him to impress the World Cup audience as well as the other players.
