The Football Association has clearly made no intentions to change plans for England’s presence in the summer’s World Cup despite calls to consider a boycott.
Former spy, Sergei Skripal along with his daughter was poisoned by a military grade nerve agent (Novichok) that is said to have been developed by Russia.
Immediately, the Foreign Office has summoned Russia’s ambassador to provide an explanation for the attack on Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury who are both in a critical condition.
Contrary to FA decision, Labour’s backbench foreign affairs committee John Woodcock said that he has not yet personally decided whether England national team is right to participate in World Cup tournament.
He said: “England’s participation in the World Cup ought to be in question.”
But Woodcock, Member of Parliament for Barrow and Furness also stated that there shouldn’t be no issues of government officials, dignitaries, or senior members of the FA going to the global event.
“I recognise this is the pinnacle of a player’s career, and they may only get one shot at it, so it’s not a step that should be taken lightly,” he expressed in an interview.
“There needs to be a mix of the FA itself and the team itself taking a view on this. It’s not something which I think should be universally directed by anyone in government, but I do think it ought to be in question.”
Meanwhile, with the World Cup fast approaching, England national club are expected to kick start their campaign against Tunisia on June 18 (Sign Up to get the best betting odds and Sportsbook updates).
