Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland is hoping that he can be part for the trip to Russia to add his six England caps at the World Cup.
As of now, England manager Gareth Southgate sees Butland as one of the leading options to be the first choice being a goal keeper.
Despite of having a tough season with Stoke, who sit second from the bottom of the Premier League, the 24-year-old made an impact with his team and he is already excited and up for a challenge to join the England national team.
However, Butland admits that he needs to continue playing well, improve and help his team out of relegation zone in order to be with Southgate’s squad.
In fact, the keeper admitted that World Cup, the most prestigious and biggest football event in world, is always in the back of his mind.
“It’s impossible to get away from. It’s a World Cup year. It’s impossible not to turn a corner and see something about the World Cup or hear something about the World Cup. It’s in your mind. I’s something I am excited about. I hope to be a part of it – but I have always said that doesn’t happen if I am not putting in performances week in, week out for Stoke and playing at the highest level. To be in the England squad, you have got to be playing well and your standards have got to be up there. So for me the most important thing is improving still, being as good as I can be for Stoke and, if I can do that and steer us clear of the relegation zone, that will put things in a positive light for England.” Butland stated
Moving forward, World Cup is set to unfold on June 14 to July 15, 2018.
